    Quantum network architecture of tight-binding models with substitution sequences

    We study a two-spin quantum Turing architecture, in which discrete local rotations \alpha_m of the Turing head spin alternate with quantum controlled NOT-operations. Substitution sequences are known to underlie aperiodic structures. We show that parameter inputs \alpha_m described by such sequences can lead here to a quantum dynamics, intermediate between the regular and the chaotic variant. Exponential parameter sensitivity characterizing chaotic quantum Turing machines turns out to be an adequate criterion for induced quantum chaos in a quantum network.Comment: Accepted for publication in J. mod.     Factors Influencing the Perceived Stressors of New Graduate Nurses Transitioning into Acute Care Settings: A Secondary Data Analysis

    Background: The transition into practice of new graduate nurses continues to be of concern to the nursing profession. Smooth transition into practice takes on increased importance in the current era of healthcare transformation and resulting impact on the clinical environments within which nurses practice. It is important to study the stressors and challenges new graduates face in the practice environment. Methods: This descriptive study utilized secondary data analysis to explore new graduate nurses\u27 self-report of clinical stressors during their transition into the professional RN role. Meleis’ Transitions Theory and Lazarus and Folkman’s Transactional Model of Stress and Coping provided the theoretical framework for the study. The study purpose was to identify sources of work environment stress and their magnitude as stressors perceived by new graduate registered nurses during their first year of clinical practice in acute care settings. The study additionally sought to examine trends in stress levels over time and identify factors that may be predictive of stress levels in new graduate nurses. Findings: The study utilized a large national sample of new graduate nurses responding to the National Student Nurses Association annual assessment of new graduates. Quantitative data analyses from this study identified that stressors related to work environment, interpersonal work environment characteristics, and unpredictable work environment characteristics were perceived differently by new graduate nurses based on gender, age, and education. The study additionally revealed there were significant increases in the level of stress perceived by new graduates between 2013 through 2015. Conclusions: As new graduates enter demanding practice environments, smooth transitions are vital. Knowing the new graduate experience from these data is essential to enable nurse leaders in education and practice settings to develop interventions to diminish work environment stressors for new graduate nurses and support their successful transition into professional practice

    Given a finite nonempty set of primes S, we build a graph G\mathcal{G} with vertex set Q\mathbb{Q} by connecting x and y if the prime divisors of both the numerator and denominator of x-y are from S. In this paper we resolve two conjectures posed by Ruzsa concerning the possible sizes of induced nondegenerate cycles of G\mathcal{G}, and also a problem of Ruzsa concerning the existence of subgraphs of G\mathcal{G} which are not induced subgraphs.Comment: 15 page

    Arithmetical Congruence Preservation: from Finite to Infinite

    Various problems on integers lead to the class of congruence preserving functions on rings, i.e. functions verifying aba-b divides f(a)f(b)f(a)-f(b) for all a,ba,b. We characterized these classes of functions in terms of sums of rational polynomials (taking only integral values) and the function giving the least common multiple of 1,2,,k1,2,\ldots,k. The tool used to obtain these characterizations is "lifting": if π ⁣:XY\pi\colon X\to Y is a surjective morphism, and ff a function on YY a lifting of ff is a function FF on XX such that πF=fπ\pi\circ F=f\circ\pi. In this paper we relate the finite and infinite notions by proving that the finite case can be lifted to the infinite one. For pp-adic and profinite integers we get similar characterizations via lifting. We also prove that lattices of recognizable subsets of ZZ are stable under inverse image by congruence preserving functions

    Strong Lens Models for 37 Clusters of Galaxies from the SDSS Giant Arcs Survey

    We present strong gravitational lensing models for 37 galaxy clusters from the SDSS Giant Arcs Survey. We combine data from multi-band Hubble Space Telescope WFC3imaging, with ground-based imaging and spectroscopy from Magellan, Gemini, APO, and MMT, in order to detect and spectroscopically confirm new multiply-lensed background sources behind the clusters. We report spectroscopic or photometric redshifts of sources in these fields, including cluster galaxies and background sources. Based on all available lensing evidence, we construct and present strong lensing mass models for these galaxy clusters.Comment: 53 pages; submitted to ApJ

    Small quantum networks operating as quantum thermodynamic machines

    We show that a 3-qubit system as studied for quantum information purposes can alternatively be used as a thermodynamic machine when driven in finite time and interfaced between two split baths. The spins are arranged in a chain where the working spin in the middle exercises Carnot cycles the area of which defines the exchanged work. The cycle orientation (sign of the exchanged work) flips as the difference of bath temperatures goes through a critical value.Comment: RevTeX, 4 pages, 7 figures.
